Hard to believe all the haters out there. How about I hate on you for sec, k? (Disclaimer: I am a music snob. Not a dick, just a someone who has a great deal of experience and education in the field.) If you honestly believe Pomplamoose don't have a fresh and distinctive sound and that the singer sounds generic in any way then you simply do not understand music, and I feel sorry for you. The timbre of her voice is like a modernized, slightly jazzy Judy Garland. Very unique, cool. She sings with a relaxed style, and rarely, if ever forces notes. Never heard one like hers before. That's basically the opposite of all pop and rock music today. I don't think too many people would argue with that. Listen to the nuance between notes. Hear how she jumps large intervals with great ease, the subtle slides, the rubato phrasing, etc. Also, the arrangements are quite original and fantastic! The poster Darragh has no clue. Way to make a blanket statement without any support. Beyond the use of the kids' mini piano and xylophone, which contribute to their original style, they create a wonderful and full sound with crisp, clean textures. Moreover, on the covers, can you hear how they change up the harmonic structure? Do you know how much skill that takes? Most artists don't change them up covers that drastically and have them still work. And, yes, they work. Just because a sound may be a little foreign to you doesn't make it bad or wrong. On an unrelated note, she has beautiful eyes. Wow.

Reading all the comments that are negative are humorous. Stating their music is a rip off, hollow, sucks etc...is all and well if you can offer advice on how to improve. Not just tear them down.
The second part is, what have you (the harsh critics) done? At least they are trying. They are aware there is room for improvement...but they keep at it. What have you (the critics) got? Send me your Youtube or Myspace links.
As Anton Ego said in Ratatouille, "Surprise me."

I LOVELOVELOVE POMPLAMOOSE.
I started listening to them a few months ago, they are just so talented. Nataly has a beautiful voice, and Jack is a great musician. When their t-shirts are available, I'm gonna order one and wear it every day. xD
I think someone mentioned how the name Pomplamoose is a play on the french word for grapefruit, "pamplemousse." Yeah, Nataly majored in French, and she lived in France for like, 10 years.

i think they're great. their original stuff rocks (beat the horse is my fave) and as far as covers go... i like 'single ladies' (hate the original) and also like 'expiration date' would LOVE to hear you guys do 'weird fishes' by radiohead off their "in rainbows" album.

i havent liked a duo this much since Fleming & John. I watch a lot of bands and as a musician, feel i am a bit overcritical at times, but i watch these two and its joy I feel. you can really feel sincerity in their performances, both with their covers and origs. and their covers are not super pure covers, they do a diff take on them, (i actually like their single ladies better than beyonce's, sorry) which leads me to believe pomplamoose's got mad skillz :)

To Theagle:
They do have original songs.
Beat the Horse, Centrifuge, Be Still, Pas Encore, Expiration Date, etc.
I personally HATE the single ladies video but their song Expiration Date is very nice. It gets better as it goes.

OH SIQ ANOTHER CUTESY QUAINT INDIE COUPLE. OH SIQ SHE THINKS SHE IS ADORABLE AND SOUNDS LIKE EVERY OTHER GIRL IN MODERN MUSIC.

LOVE THEM! Someone showed me a link to the Single Ladies cover, but Beat the Horse, and some of their other songs that I've heard just today, are FANTASTIC. I don't care if they get signed, but I do hope they tour and play a small venue near me. Plus, I hope they can manage to get touring musicians that can bring their studio sound to life.
Darragh on October 01, 2009 at 04:44 AM
These cover-versions are hideously affected shells of the originals. All the life has been sucked out of them. What's left? Some technical trickery and a vocalist who sounds less emotional than the computer in 2001 Space Odyssey

Courtney Powell on September 30, 2009 at 09:36 AM
I am guilty of posting a couple covers because I liked them so much, but Hail Mary is a Pomplamoose original, as is Beat the Horse (not posted here but mentioned by a couple other commenters). Check out more original songs and more covers at http://www.youtube.com/user/pomplamoosemusic?blend=1&ob=4 .

Wow, another "alt" girl doing covers in her own "distinctive" way. Impress us with song-writing skills, not coat-tail-riding skills.

Hi to all..
It was really great video collection and also those are simply awesome..
Thanks for sharing...

What would be the point of someone "signing" them? They can just keep distributing their music for free.
The old music industry, where a tiny fraction of all musicians got rich because someone "signed" them, is dying. The future of music is more like music was prior to the invention of sound recording: more musicians will be listened to, but without the expectation of getting rich at it.

They seem pretty nice but, as compared to the real Piaf clip above, she ain't La Mome.
The name seems to be some kind of play on the French word for grapefruit. What's with that?
AutoPRND21 on September 29, 2009 at 09:14 PM
I think Jack works for Electro-Harmonix (guitar fx company) - the two of them made some amazing product demo videos for them a while back.
Great stuff - really fresh and creative. They may have hipster fashion and haircuts, but they're not hanging outside the coffeehouse talking about making music - they're doing it.

Their songs are definitely hit or miss, and Nataly's style can veer into a drone sometimes. But overall I enjoy their music and they seem to really be having fun.
Courtney Hurst on September 29, 2009 at 07:05 PM
I think they're fantastic. What a beautiful voice! And I love the lyric changes in Single Ladies :)

I love Pomplamoose, I'm so psyched to see them getting some well-deserved attention! I guess they're not for everyone (judging from some of the other comments) but that's true of most of the music I listen to.
Beat The Horse is definitely a favorite.

Their "La Vie en Rose" has all the panache of a bunch of self-absorbed art schoolers. Watch, or listen, to the real thing, like here:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1dlz2_edith-piaf-la-vie-en-rose_music
or here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKgcKYTStMc
Then go read something about Piaf's life. It helps to understand why there is so much more to her music than sterile, horrendously cute regurgitations of the lyrics & melody.

This is too funny. I just posted a Pomplamoose vid (Beat The Horse) to Facebook 10 minutes ago.
tu3031 on September 29, 2009 at 06:17 PM
You're kidding, right? A dentist drill company maybe. That's a distinctive sound too...
Ashen on September 29, 2009 at 05:41 PM
Hopefully no one. They SUCK!!
